A talented stage actor and singer, he became widely recognized for his memorable performances in major Broadway productions such as Waiting for Godot, Les Miserables, and Young Frankenstein. His portrayal of Jud Fry in the 2002 Broadway revival of Oklahoma! earned him a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical, a milestone that further solidified his reputation in the theater world.
Before he found fame on the stage, he began his journey in Marietta, Georgia, where he was raised by a mother who was a professional ballet dancer and a father who was a former college football standout. Initially, he attended the University of Georgia on an athletic scholarship. However, everything changed when he attended a concert by the legendary opera star Jessye Norman. That experience, combined with his involvement in a collegiate musical theater production, inspired him to pursue a career in music and performance.
Following this newfound passion, he made the bold decision to transfer to the Manhattan School of Music, where he immersed himself in the opera program and honed the skills that would later define his successful career on Broadway and beyond.
He went on to earn his Master’s degree from the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he further honed his craft. His time at the institute played a pivotal role in shaping his artistic development. He truly immersed himself in the rigorous environment, making the most of every opportunity. His dedication and talent stood out during his years there, laying a strong foundation for what was to come. He often reflects on that period as a turning point in his journey.
