Michael Schoeffling was born in Pennsylvania in 1960 and grew up in New Jersey. He started modeling in the mid-1980s and soon after began taking acting classes. Those efforts proved successful when he landed a role in John Hughes’ film Sixteen Candles (1984). Not long after that, Schoeffling appeared in Vision Quest (1985), Sylvester (1985), and Belizaire the Cajun (1985). Following his performance as Al Carver in Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken (1991), Schoeffling decided to step away from acting. Since then, he has turned his attention to a completely different passion and launched a hand-crafted furniture business.
Michael Schoeffling’s most acclaimed movie is Longtime Companion (1990), which stands out as his highest-rated work. On the other hand, his performance in Slaves of New York (1989) received the least favorable reviews, making it his lowest-rated film to date. While he has been part of various projects throughout his career, these two films represent the extremes in terms of critical reception.
