Before he rose to fame, he showcased his athletic talent from a young age. Encouraged by his trainer, Andy Smith, he decided to pursue boxing and turned professional by the time he was just 17 years old. He was born in Szoreg, Hungary, but his life took a dramatic turn when he and his family were forced to leave their homeland following the Soviet invasion in 1956, eventually settling in the UK where his legendary boxing career would begin.
