Things could have gone in a completely different direction if Ian Bohen had viewed a year in New Zealand as a smart career decision. After filming the pilot, he chose to stay in the U.S., and as a result, he missed out on the lead in Young Hercules, a children’s spin-off from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, which eventually went to Ryan Gosling.
Ian Bohen first appeared in the short film Delivering, directed by Todd Fields, and then moved on to feature films, playing the younger version of Kevin Costner’s character in Lawrence Kasdan’s 1994 Western biopic Wyatt Earp. He quickly climbed the ranks to leading roles and starred alongside Candace Cameron Bure as one of the teen leads in Monster Mash: The Movie, a film based on the cult classic 1960s song by Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett—who also appeared in the film as Dr. Frankenstein.
In the years that followed, Ian Bohen made brief appearances in a number of popular TV shows such as Walker, Texas Ranger, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and Boy Meets World. His role as Johnny O’Brien in the series Any Day Now in 2000 and 2001 helped make up for the opportunity he missed with Young Hercules. Supporting roles, like that of a radar operator in Pearl Harbor and the late son of coach Terry O’Quinn’s character in the sports drama Hometown Legend, also kept his career moving forward.
Later, Ian Bohen took on supporting roles in the 2006 comic-book inspired fantasy Special and the Bollywood feel-good film Marigold. He then starred in the thriller Irreversi, playing a married urban professional hiding a troubling secret. On television, he continued to build his resume with guest appearances in critically acclaimed shows like Mad Men and Teen Wolf.
So, when it comes to Ian Bohen’s film career, there are definitely some standout moments—and a few that didn’t quite hit the mark. If we’re talking about the peak of his work, Ian Bohen’s highest rated movie is undoubtedly Wind River from 2017. That film really showcased his talent and earned a lot of critical praise. On the other end of the spectrum, Ian Bohen’s lowest rated project came much later with Air Force One Down in 2024, which unfortunately didn’t resonate as well with audiences or critics. Still, it’s interesting to see the range in Ian Bohen’s roles over the years, highlighting both his strengths and the occasional misstep.
