He’s a Canadian-born actor who’s made a name for himself in both film and television. You might recognize him as Knox from the popular series Some Assembly Required, where his performance really stood out. He also took on the role of Reilly in the hit show Letterkenny, further solidifying his presence on screen. Another notable role was playing Gil in Descendants 2, which brought him even more attention. Before all the fame, life looked a little different. Growing up, he spent his summers back home in Fort St. James, British Columbia, working hard at various saw mills. He also helped out on his cousins’ farm, where his family has a summer place they’ve cherished for years. Coming from a strong athletic background, he’s the son of former NHL player Jim Playfair—and that sports legacy runs deep, as he’s also the nephew of another former NHL player, Larry Playfair. It seems talent runs in the family, since both of his brothers went on to become WHL players. So while he chose acting over hockey, the drive and discipline from that upbringing clearly shaped who he is today.
He was deeply involved in Jr. A hockey, playing in the BCHL with the Merritt Centennials, and at the time, he had his heart set on a professional career. But life took an unexpected turn—eventually, he shifted gears and pursued acting instead. Still, those early days on the ice, especially during his time with the Merritt Centennials, helped shape his discipline and drive. And even though he didn’t end up going pro in hockey, the passion he showed back then is something that stayed with him. He often reflects on how close he came to one path before stepping into the spotlight. It’s kind of inspiring, really—how he balanced ambition in sports while quietly opening the door to something completely different. He proved that talent isn’t limited to one field, and his journey from the rink to the screen shows just how much he was willing to adapt and grow.
