He took over as the head coach of Notre Dame’s football team back in 2010 and quickly made an impact. Under his leadership, the Fighting Irish made a strong push all the way to the BCS title game in 2012. Before landing at Notre Dame, he gained valuable experience coaching at several other schools, including Grand Valley State, Central Michigan, and Cincinnati. Long before he became a well-known figure in college football, he played linebacker at Assumption College from 1979 to 1982. Off the field, he shares his life with his wife, Paqui, and together they have three children—Patrick, Grace, and Kenzel.
He was honored with five Coach of the Year awards in 2012, one of which was the prestigious AP College Football Coach of the Year.
