Julius Dubose, who was born on December 6, 1995, in the Bronx, New York, would later become widely recognized by his stage name, A Boogie wit da Hoodie. Growing up in the Highbridge area of the Bronx, he started writing lyrics and freestyling at the young age of 12. After attending high school for a few years in Florida, he returned to Highbridge with a renewed determination to build a career in rap. Alongside Bubba and Don Q, A Boogie helped establish the independent record label Highbridge and released his debut mixtape, Artist, in 2016. This project created a strong wave of buzz and even landed him opportunities to open for major artists like Future and Drake.
His first EP, TBA, dropped later in 2016 and climbed to number 63 on the US Billboard 200 chart. In June 2017, A Boogie was featured in XXL’s prestigious freshman class list, marking another milestone in his early career. That September, he released his first full-length album, The Bigger Artist, which included the popular track “Drowning” featuring Kodak Black. His follow-up album, Hoodie SZN (2018), performed even better, debuting at number 2 on the US Billboard 200.
With his quick rise to fame, A Boogie found himself collaborating with numerous artists, many of whom appeared on his third studio album, Artist 2.0, released in 2020. After taking a short hiatus during the pandemic and facing the challenge of leaked music, he returned strong with his fourth album, Me vs. Myself, which dropped in early December 2022. The album debuted at number 6 on the US Billboard 200 and was followed by a massive, sold-out tour across North America and Europe.
In addition to his solo work, A Boogie wit da Hoodie also contributed to the soundtrack of the 2023 animated film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, delivering the lead single “Calling” alongside Swae Lee and Nav.
A Boogie wit da Hoodie’s most acclaimed movie, film, or music project is yet to be clearly defined, while his least praised work also remains somewhat ambiguous.
